Cebu Normal University won as Regional Champion in the 2019 Search for Sustainable and Eco-Friendly Schools (Higher Education Category) awarded by the Environmental Management Bureau (EMB) 7 last August 14.
It is the first attempt of CNU to join the competition this year and it has bested two other universities in Central Visayas. The contest is on its sixth year now which examines the academic institutions’ way of responding to climate change and other environmental problems. It also aims for schools to strengthen their involvement in conservational matters by raising community awareness and active response to ecological concerns.
The search is organized by the EMB of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) in collaboration with the Department of Education (DepEd), Commission on Higher Education (CHED), Nestle Philippines, and Land Bank of the Philippines.
Cebu Normal University received a certificate of recognition, plaque, and a P15, 000.00 cash prize. CNU now qualifies for the national level competition and will be representing the whole Region 7. The winners will be announced during the awarding ceremony this November in celebration of the National Environmental Awareness Month. (JPF)
